My Life On The Charts, Well MY Charts: Part 1: The First 18 Years
Thursday, July 27th, will mark 52 years since I entered the world as a mixed-race, raven-haired, 6-pound bundle of trouble.
A lot has changed since that day. My biological mother died. I was adopted. I lived and grew up. I had kids. I loved and lost. My adoptive father died. And my adoptive mother. But I’m still here and through it all, there was music.
I learned to walk. Well, run, actually. I ran before I walked. I had my first day and last days of school. I fell in love, had my heart broken, reinvented myself, and watched my boys grow up, all to music. It was always there, in the background.
So, in honour of my 52 years on the planet, I’ve come up with my own playlist, 52 years, 52 songs. These songs may not be tracks that actually appeared on the charts. They’re on MY chart, they’re songs that mean something to me and did mean something to me in the year they came out.
1971: Take Me Home Country Roads, John Denver
