A Nice Holiday Surprise
I’m not normally one to humble-brag. I don’t really do humble. I also don’t really brag, especially when it comes to my fiction writing.
Those who know me, or my writing know that I love to write fiction, but that it’s also been my weakest form of writing. I just never felt I could get “good” at it if that makes sense. I’m still not sure I can. My husband likes my stories, but he also has to live with me, so I don’t necessarily count his as an unbiased opinion.
I also don’t count my son as unbiased. At 30 and something of an aspiring writer himself, he’s a literature snob. Yeah, I said it. No, seriously he is. Writing short fiction online contests is just soooo beneath him, not serious writing, you know.
Of course, none of that stops me. I keep plugging away, entering challenges over on Vocal Media, mostly because I have a free year of Vocal Plus and am trying to make the most of it.
I’ve done pretty well over there, but I’ve never gotten much attention with my fiction. I didn’t expect to, there are a lot of brilliant writers over there. So when a friend notified me that my little offering for their Beyond The Last Window challenge was awarded Top Story, I was more than a little stoked (as the young people say).
