A Note on Reboots
It’s no secret that I’m not a fan of the reboot. It annoys the living shit out of me that there don’t seem to be any new ideas coming out. It’s all reaching back to the 80s and 90s, maybe even the 70s and trying to either recreate or update us. And, more often than not, it’s done horribly!
The most recent example, of course, would be, And Just Like That. I loved Sex and the City (with the exception of that unfortunate second movie)! But the reboot, sorry, no thanks.
I’m not sure if I’ve changed or if it just sucks. Either way, yuck. The over the top portrayal of mid-life, the obviously forced diversity (I agree the show needed to become more inclusive, but it feels forced when I watch it as if they just decided to “insert diversity here”), it smacks of pandering and going for the cheap clap.
Before that, there have been reboots of MacGyver, Magnum PI, Will and Grace (in fairness, that one was decent), Roseanne (now called The Connors, also decent), and on and on.
That being said, I have an idea. And before I tell you, I say this. It’s MY idea. Don’t go stealing it folks at CBC. I’ll be watching and I have the law degree and skills to deal with you.
Since we’re rebooting literally everything now. Let’s reboot a good show. Possibly…
