And She Lived Happily Ever After
And the beautiful princess lived happily ever after…
Isn’t that how all the fairy tales we’re told as children end? And we believe it. Well, we believe it until we get older and the world gives us other messages, especially as women:
You can’t have it all.
Your expectations are too high.
You need to be more realistic.
Well, I call bullshit on those messages. I have my fairy tale ending. I have it all. I have my happily ever after. But it wasn’t easy to get. It took years, decades of hard work, hard times and heartache. Some of which were inflicted on me; some of which I inflicted upon myself.
It also took a whole lot of growing up and soul searching. It took taking a long hard, and brutally honest look at myself. It took tough love and a willingness to change those things that I was doing to get in my own way.
It also took redefining what my happily ever after looked like. As a child, it looked like being stunningly beautiful, having lots of money, expensive things and being adored and admired by many.
