Confessions of a Skinny Bi*&h

In my morning reading I stumbled on an article by Jimmy Misner Jr. about body positivity (here’s a link to his article: https://medium.com/know-thyself-heal-thyself/body-positivity-is-for-all-bodies-c968f8987088). It was well thought out, balanced and even handed. A refreshing change from what I normally see posted regarding loving the skin you’re in.

His article stirred up some lingering feelings I have and prompted me to write my own piece, from my own perspective, the perspective of what I’ve heard some in the body positivity movement refer to as the “skinny bi&*h”.

I have always been thin. It’s just how I was made. My mother was thin. My father was thin. The same way as my eyes are blue and my hair is curly, I’m thin. I was considerably thinner as a younger girl, and I hated it. I was desperately insecure, continually comparing myself to my bigger, more “grown up” looking peers. I was teased unmercifully for years, decades even.

I can accept that teasing now (although I don’t in any way condone it). Kids can be cruel. But let’s fast forward a decade or 2, maybe 3, and look at how nasty adults can be, all in the name of positivity. See the meme I posted above? here’s another version of the same thing:
