Covid Restrictions Are Beginning To Ease
It looks like there might finally be some light at the end of this horrific Covid tunnel. Restrictions are being eased in many places. In the UK, for example, Premier Boris Johnson announced an end to all restrictions including the compulsory mask mandate. Here, in my Canadian home province, a gradual easing has been announced with a start date of January 31. Finally, maybe we can get back to normal!
Remember normal? Remember going out to eat, going to a pub, going shopping and not being absolutely terrified that anyone and everyone within 10 feet of you was a potential disease-ridden vessel? Remember cramming onto your office elevator at 8:25 am with 17 other people and being totally okay with it? Remember handshakes?
Yeah, I kinda do too. However, it feels now like a mythical past life. It feels like when I was a kid and my parents would tell me all about the “good old days,” and I’d sit and nod as they waxed poetic about how super peachy things were back in their day.
It’s probably an unpopular opinion. Well, it’s more of a feeling really, but I’m not excited. Not even a little bit. It feels like I’ve been in this odd fearful, antagonistic state where I had to fear everyone and everything for so long that I can’t let it go.
