First, I'll preface my comments by saying I am an atheist. Raised Baptist, discovered my Jewish roots and I suppose can be described as "culturally Jewish," but for all intents and purposes, an atheist. That being said, I like to read things that challenge my world view (that's how we learn).
All that said, I do agree with some of what you said. I woulnd't call it a "Godly life," I'd probably say more a moral or a good life.
I do agree many people do refuse to take responsibility for their actions and that they often are too lazy or complacent to change. Change is hard. Self-reflection is hard. People shy away from what's hard or uncomfortable. To me it's not a religious argument or problem; it's just human nature in a way.
I've done things I'm not proud of. I changed my ways. I didn't do it because of any beliff in anything but myself and the fact that I knew I could do better. But, I both affirm and defend your right to hold and speak on what works for you and gives you strength.
