I can't believe we're here. I'm 52 years old, I'm mixed race and grew up in the 70s and 80s. My dad was Black, my mother was white, I was adopted by my aunt and uncle, both Black. There was no teaching of Black history then, aside from slavery was bad.
My mother made me watch Roots as a small child because that was the only way she could think of to teach me something of our history.
I just...uggg, I have no words. I just heard about this today on the radio as I was running errands and had to pull over I was so angry.
Thank you so much for lending your voice to this important issue. it's more important now than ever that WE teach our children the real truth, the facts because schools can't be counted on.
