I can't say I'm a huge fan. I hated Friends. That said, I'm way more of a fan now than I've ever been. I've not read the book yet, but I've read about it and watched Matthew on Real Time on Friday.
We need more, not less honesty. Life isn't all neat and tidy. It's not wrapped up in a cute pink bow. Addiction is ugly. He's earned my respect for his openness and honesty.
If that woman, whoever she is, wants fairy stories of redemption, might I suggest a good fiction novel. But to my mind, his IS the redemption story because it's honest. As a recovering alcoholic, I can say, you don't get clean until you get honest, both with others and yourself.
