I found out that some of my ancestry is Jewish, but I was rasied strict Baptist. I didn't buy it even when I was 5. Of course, back then, my mother's soloution was not to spare the rod. so to speak.

As so called Portestants, I wasn't allowed to even eat a tuna sandwhich on a Friday because that would be "Catholic". Well, the Holy Roman Church relaxed that rule in 1966 and by 1985, I think it was pretty much gone and people were allowed to substitite anonther pennance. In any event, why should that have been an issue for me?

I've probably read more religious texts than most actual religious people. I made my own choice based on my own reasoing. My mother never agreed. I allowed my children to choose thier own path, but happily took the to churches, synagogues, mosques and whatever other holy place they wanted to investigate.

For me, the big thing has always been quesioning. If questioning is shut down, I'm out. If education is shut down, I'm out.

I'm sure it is harder when you're endoctrinated into a faith. if it's all you know, well, it's all you know.
