I have no words other than that just sucks! I wish that it wasn't the case, but I know you speak the truth! It's called institutionalized racism for a reason.
I found racism another way in the workplace. Years ago now, I was trotted out as my law firm's commitment to diversity. I was older, 39, made no secret of my biracial heritage and they actually used it. It took a couple years, but then, all of a sudden, every conversation with potential clients, every newspaper ad celebrating my achievements (winning an important case, receiving a certification in a specific area of practice), suddenly included my "Black daddy" and "humble beginnings." Come on! Shit, you've sparked a story in me....
