I joined Vocal back in February and initially enjoyed it. It was like the shiny new boyfriend that pays you all kinds of attention and makes you feel pretty. I won 2 challenges and got a couple of top stories...then nothing. I was essentially ghosted. I couldn't write anything that pleased them. I seriously contemplated leaving, then they dangled another top story in front of me and lured me back in. Contemplating leaving again now that I've got the $20 bonus for completing all the SFS stories. But, I'll wait until the current challenges are finished, just in case they want to try luring me back with a couple thousand reasons to stay. ;) All that said, I joined Medium at the very end of July and like it much better, have way more reads (like 7700 vs 2058 on Vocal) and find it much more user friendly.
