I love this! I'm older than you, I'm 50, so I remember both the 70's and 80s. That being said, you're spot on about everything. I have a couple other memories to share:
1. American Top 40: We'd wait for Saturday to listen to Casey Kasem count down the week's biggest hits. And we'd listen for the entire 4 hours, often trying to tape our favourite songs off the radio. And I remember Casey always ruining my tapes because he always yapped over the beginnings of the best songs (Full disclosure, I still listen to American Top 40 The 80s to this day);
2. The Year End Hot 100: As above, but on NYE and 100 songs. I can still tell you the #1 song for every year between 1980 and 1989 without looking it up.
3. Posters: Do they even exist anymore? We had posters, there were entire sections dedicated to them in record stores. If you had a crush on a singer or a movie star, they were hanging on your wall.
I could go on, but this was supposed to be a comment, not an article in itself. ;)
