I raised 3 boys pretty much on my own. I kicked their father out when the oldest was 9. I married another man briefly who was NOT a good role model.

I had a good community around me. And I raised bright, loving, compassionate young men who are now 32, 30 and 28. The presence of a man doesn't guarantee anything, it has to be the right man. And if he doesn't exist, a strong woman will absolutely get it done. In fact, I'd argue that my boys are better off for having just me. They learned compassion, they learned strength and how to treat a woman with respect. And they'd argue the same thing.
