You're so right about the lack of readers in society. And as writers, that makes things difficult . I wish I could disagree with you about supporting other writers, but I can't. I've experienced the same type of cattieness and jealousy that you outlined. Now, I read what I like. I don't feel I owe anyone anything. I'll read someone's stuff if it interests me and that's pretty much it. And people are free to read mine if it interests them.
