I struggled with this as well. Still do, if I'm honest. I've written since the time I could hold a pencil, but always hid my work from others for fear of criticism or ridicule or the revelation that I actually sucked. I began coming out of my writing shell about a year ago and it hasn't been too bad. I've had criticism, but I consider the source before freaking out. Like, on here, if it's a mean comment by some faceless profile that hasn't written a word, I laugh. If it's someone that genuinely disagrees with me, but communicates like a jerk, fine. And sometimes, it might actually be something constructive.

Also remember, you can block those who are being rude or abusive to you. I don't, but I've learned to get a thick skin by this time. part of it, for me, I think is age. I'm 50, and around the mid-century mark, you kind of stop giving a shit what others think. Or at least I did. The insecurities are still there, sitting in the background, but they're not as prominent as they used to be.

Keep writing, it'll get easier over time. And again, remember, you CAN block the meanies.
