I'd say it's definitely worth it. I joined on July 30, right before they changed the rules and was able to join the Partner Program right away with the proviso that should I not reach 100 followers by year end, I'd be out. That said, gaining 100 followers isn't that difficult. I think it took me less than 3 weeks.

From what I've experienced, most people on the platform are warm, welcoming and helpful. Write quality content and engage honestly with the content of others you find interesting and you'll be over 100 in no time.
