If They Gossip With You, They’ll Gossip About You
A new month brings a new list of challenges. Today, I stumbled upon one from Keeley Schroder. It’s a list of daily prompts for the month, so I’ll likely respond to a few of them.
That said, today’s prompt is to discuss an Irish saying I love.
I have a good deal of Irish ancestry. My maternal great-great-grandmother, Theresa Acton, came across the pond from Donegal County in the early 1800s and found herself in New Brunswick, where she married, had a family and the rest is history.
One saying that got passed down through my family, and one I didn’t even know was Irish was:
He who comes with a story to you, brings two away from you.
Or as we said in my house:
If they’ll talk about others to you, they’ll talk about you to others.
