I'm sadder than I thought I'd be. My dad was a Black Canadian solldier. He was a Korean War veteran. The Queen came to inspect the troops back when she was still Princess Elizabeth. He was told by his commanding officer to stand down, and back because she'd be uncomfortable shaking the hand of a Black man. He did not. And you know what? She shook his hand and spoke to him with no hesitation at all. THAT'S how I'll remember her, even though it happened about 20 years before I was even born.
