I'm so sorry you had to deal with that. I had a similar, but different experience. We grew up at a similar time. I just turned 50 in July. I'm a biracial woman (Black father, White mother). I was adopted by my aunt and uncle, both Black. I had no idea, literally no idea that they were any different from me...until I went to school, and then, it was the adults, not the children that pointed it out. My friends that I made would tell me how their mother or father had told them they couldn't play with me because I was "coloured" (that was the supposed polite term then). Living proof that racism is taught. Loved your story.
