In Canada, we have July 1 or Canada Day. If the fireworks weren't annoying enough for me to hate it, our abismal record on dealing with our Indigenous populations is more than enough.

You may or may not know about the thousands of bodies that have been found at former residential school sites in Canada (residential schools meaning schools run by the Catholic Church and government that native children were forced to go to. They were literally, and I do mean literally, snatched from their homes and sent off to these schools). The idea was to forcibly assimilate them into so-called White society. Well, many were sexually or physically abused and others ended up dead. Some of these children were my ancestors/relatives as I am part Mi'kmaq and Maliseet. I'm not very proud of my country, so nope, no celebration.
