it hit me harder than I thought it would too. I honestly don't care about the royal family that much. I'm Canadian, as you know and we pay millions of dollars to them each year ($58 million in 2020) to have them as figureheads. All that while people are homeless, hungry and our healthcare system is in ruins, literally. I think they're a waste of money and a throwback to an era long past.
That said. I can disagree with the political ssytem and still have respect for a woman who honoured her duty, seemed like a dignified lady and was just kinda always there. Her death wasn't exactly a surprise, she was 96, but a loss is a loss and I'm sure her family, on a human level, feels it profoundly. My heart goes out to them for that.
