It's not only high achieving parents, my parents were not that in any sense of the word. In fact, my father had a grade 4 education but I was pressured to be the very best at everything all the time. If I came home with a 99 on a test, my parents asked what happened to the other mark. When I ran track and did gymnastics, second was never an option. And of course much time was spent showing me around and bragging about their little wonder kid.
I know my dad meant well. He saw my abilities and wanted me to become more than he had become, but that's just not the way to do it. The pressure is real, very real. No wonder I rebelled.
