I've never understood the pretending to be Black thing! As you know, I'm multiracial. I've hesitated to join Person of Colour writing groups because of my very white appearance. Although I know my status and my expereinces are valid, I often worry that my presence in such spaces would be a detraction rather than a positive addition.

Anyway, as I write this comment, I've changed my mind, I DO undersand why theese white people pretend to be Black. They're benefitting from it. Whether it's gaining a position, garnering attention, or some sort of public platform, they're getting something out of it. Funny thing, they didn't get any of the generational trauma. They don't get or want any of the day to day fear for their children when they leave the house. Girl you got me all heated now!
