I've struggesd with the same thing throughout my life, but not so much now. I think a lot of it is how we're raised. Having been raised in a culture with predominately Christian values, at least in my expereince, being humble was a HUGE thing (now before anyone gets their knickers in a knot, I'm not saying all Christians or even that it's only them, I said "my experience"). And I'm not sure how humility was instilled in you or taught to you, but for me, I was basically given the message, "don't pay too much attention to what's good about you," "you're not perfect," etc. Celebrating, hell even acknowledging our strengths was frowned upon. Just imagine what kind of message that puts in a kid's mind?
