Let me tell you about some Black women....I'm mixed race (my father was Black, my mother was white), I was adopted into a Black home.
Black Woman #1: My adopted mother, not perfect by any means and our relationship was complicated, but she took on not one, not two, but three of her husband's brother's kids at 43. She raised 2 until their father was ready to take them back. She raised me for the duration. She taught me how to read at 3. She showed me the value of an education.
Black Woman #2: My Biological father's wife. This woman worked her ass off, often 3 jobs at a time to raise her family. She accepted me with open arms when I visited as as 16 year old kid. She raised half the street and died with the pride of knowing her kids got an education and a shot at a better life.
Black Woman #3: My cousin who at over 60 got her PhD because she could.
None of them are showing out on Jerry Springer or whatever. None of them are unsure of who the baby's daddy is. These are dignified, intelligent human beings.
I could go on for days, but you get my point. I loved your story. MY 6th great grandfather, Paris O'Ree ran from a SC rice plantation as a slave back in the 1780s...He was 15. And all of us, me and these women included are here because of his bravery.
There are so many strong, intelligent Black women out there just quietly going about the day to day. They are indeed achievers. They are indeed dynamic. It's not like there was a choice.
