Medium Meanies & Me
Recently, I’ve been seeing quite a few articles written by writers who have been bullied and harassed on this platform and it pisses me off. I’m not naive enough to be shocked or even angry that these bullies, who I call Medium Meanies, exist; what bugs me is that they often succeed in silencing their targets. It breaks my heart that these “keyboard warriors” can silence the voices of others on a platform dedicated to expressing oneself.
The latest piece I read was by Lisa Beth Wright and she basically says, “fuck it, I’m done,” in response to all the abuse she’s gotten. Her article is here, give it a read:
I can understand the desire to walk away, to shut off comments and to refrain from commenting. Nobody wants to be abused and life’s too short to endure that type of negativity. I wish it didn’t have to be that way, but a person has to do what they have to do to protect their own mental health.
