My Hot 16 At 16
While I was sipping my morning coffee, I stumbled upon a story by Pierce McIntyre in which he listed his favourite 16 songs from his 16th year on the planet and challenged readers to do the same. It’s a pretty good list, check it out:
My “sweet 16” came 5 years later than his and to steal a phrase from one of the most popular shows of the day, “picture it, 1987…”
Ah, yes, 1987, when Betty White was not only still alive, she was Golden! When Must-See TV meant NBC’s Thursday night lineup and not Squid Games. When the skirts were small and the sweaters and the hair were huge. And when music was, well, totally awesome!
I turned 16 in the summer of 1987. It was a year filled with all the insanity a coming of age brings. It was the year boys began to notice me. I’m not sure what happened, but I left school in June the same nerdy little girl, frizzy-haired, and knock-kneed and came back to unusual and unexpected fan-fare 3 months later.
