My parents never smoked, but everyone else I knew did. I came up in the 70s and 80s. All the parents (except mine) smoked. It was considered normal to have a picture of your kid, about 3, half naked, smoke in his/her mouth. There was smoking in restaurants, my doctor smoked in his office too.

In Junior High, that's grades 7 to 9, ages 12 -14/15, we had a smoking area. We also had one in high school. I stood around with a pack of cigareetes, one in my face, terrified to inhale, trying to look cool. I was never cool. Players Extra Light, they were.

Looking back, I'm so glad I grew up in one of the few non-smoking homes in the neighbourhood. when my kids were born in the 90s, I had to ban their grandmother (my ex's grandmother, actually) from taking my kids in her car because she smoked like a damn chimney.
