My parents were 43 when they adopted me. They were the age of my friends' grandparents. And they seemed really, really old. Like, really old. By 50 my mother's hair was grey, she trudged around in "house dresses" and she didn't have a tooth in her head. I tell you all this to say 40, 50, even 60 isn't what it was back in the day. People put off having kids for various reasons now. Older parents are more normal I think, and also, look at how the culture has shifted...50 in 1986 was Dorothy Zbornack, today it's J-Lo.
