My thoughts, for what they're worth. First, no, I don't think these types of white people tell their children about kids in cages and police brutality. It's a thing on the news that they see as perhaps unpleasant but "not about us," if that makes sense. Also, and I say this from my experience as a biracial woman who easily floats through the world looking pretty white...there's an extinguishment factor going on here. Let me explain, extinguishment is a psychological phenomena whereby things get worse before they get better. Children that throw tantrums will throw the worst tantrum of their lives just before they throw in the towel. I honestly think that some white people are scared and resentful with all this "fuss about race" (their words not mine. They like things as they are, they like the current paradigm that favours them and they don't want that to go away. And they're uncomfortable with hearing about it or being reminded of it. It's not a problem for them, so it's not a problem. I wish I didn't have to say that, and I know it's not all white people, but I have seriously heard words to this effect coming out of people's mouths.
