Oddly, enough, that's truer than you think. People that have been incarcerated can become what's known in Psychology as institutionalized. They become accustomed to how things work and the life inside. It becomes what they know, what they're comfortable with, so consciously or not, they may, once out, do something to bring them back to that place of comfort. I realize it sounds completely counterintuitive, but it's a real thing.
