Reminiscing: 80’s Videos That Would Never Get Past Today’s Censors
I LOVE the ‘80’s! For those of you that follow me, it’s pretty obvious. I might have turned 50, but my heart and soul stopped somewhere around 1989 (which is also when music died, but that’s a whole other story). Specifically, I’m stuck somewhere between 1984 and 1989, and I’m very happy there.
I may be stuck in my own little time warp, but time, and social mores, well they marched on. My husband and I were joking the other day about how some of the best loved songs and videos from our youth would never get past the censors today. Here are some for your enjoyment:
- Total Eclipse of the Heart, Bonnie Tyler
I kind of “discovered” music in 1983. I was 12, and as most kids do, I started paying attention to the top hits. This was one of them. Who could argue? Bonnie had that low, gravely, smouldering voice, and the lyrics…dude, doesn’t everyone want someone to fall apart over them? It was the first 45 I bought at Woolworth’s after having a hot hamburger sandwich and fries for the $2 lunch. Yeah, that was a thing in my army…
