Self interest is an individual thing, it's based on what they perceive as beneficial to them. Whether or not it is in fact is another matter.
A fine point, but Trump is actually not a convicted rapist. He was found liable in a civil court for sexual abuse. That's not the same, legally as being convicted in a criminal court. That's a fine distinction and a technical legal point that doesn't change the underlying facts, but it IS the legal reality and as a former lawyer, it's something I need to make clear. But again, NOT a defence of him, just a fact, a court found, on a civil standard that he sexually abused a woman, that is a fact.
Why did women vote for him? I can't answer that. It's hard to figure out insanity when you're not insane, ya know? I suppose some, especially hardcore MAGA women just thought the case was all BS. Others likely saw it as something abstract, remote and not likely to affect them. I don't know, those are guesses. Trying to decipher it is trying to make sense out of something devoid of sense.
