So many thoughts and I'm not even American. As a direct descendant of an escaped slave that fought behind British lines, the "all men created equal" causes me to bristle. And before anyone jumps on me, yes I do know my history and yes, I know the British weren't exactly saints as regards my ancestors, who were regarded as nothing more than chattel, either.
And let's not forget, back then, when they said "men," they meant it, as in male persons, not you or me, sister.
That said, I get you celebrating the freedoms we now have. I'm grateful everyday for the freedoms my family have fought for through the years, centuries, in fact.
I guess my question is what prompted this? What was going on in your wonderful mind at the time? I'd love to know.
