So, so true! As a former law student and lawyer, yeah, it's real. First, the first term of 1L is pretty much designed to break you down so they can rebuild your thinking and analysis skills in a more "legal way". It's like boot camp without the boots. Add in a bunch of overachievers who were all #1 at whatever undergrad program they came from , who are all sizing each other up, sussing out the competition and manoeuvring to ensure their "top dog" status. Then add in the fact that law school is basically junior high, but with more sex, booze and pressure (maybe that was just my law school, dunno).
I wish I'd had your lecturer. She'd have made things a lot easier for me and about 240 others that were with me on the law school journey. Loved your story and toying with writing my own eulogy. :)
