Teachers Have The Power To Inspire
I have huge respect for teachers. To me, educating our young is a calling more than a job or a career. I mean, yes, it’s a profession, for sure, but let’s face it, nobody’s lining up to teach for the big bucks, the convenience, or the respect.
Honestly, it boggles my mind that we don’t pay and respect the people we turn our children over to for 5 or more hours every day more, but that’s not what this story is about.
This story is in response to Keeley Schroder’s question:
Is there a teacher who has influenced or inspired you?
Short answer — yes. Two come to mind. One inspired me to be the best I could be. One inspired me to meet minimum requirements and may have pushed me further toward law.
Let’s start with the not-so-positive inspiration first. His name was Mr. Hay and he was my grade 10 English teacher. He was a little man that looked like a cross between Hitler and Humpty Dumpty. Honestly, he gave off a vibe like he was perpetually insulted the have suffered the indignity of having to teach high school kids.
He didn’t like me. or at least I felt that way. I could never do anything right by him. Nothing I passed in ever got even close to the kind of grades I was used to. I was used to…
