Thank you for this. I'm Canadian too. My parents were both raised during the depression, my adoptive parents, who were born in 1929 and 1930. my birth father (my adopted father's baby brother came along later). They were all Black. I have a white birth mother... That's my context.
My dad quit school at 10 to go work in the woods for pennies to help his father feed the growing family. There were no programs for Blacks.
And for those that say it wasn't me...see my story on white privilege and my monopoly example. When you're held at "go" while everyone else gets turn after turn, allowing generation after generation to build wealth, tell me, what do you do? When you want more for your children but all you know is just survival, what do you do? i'm still waiting for an answer...
