Thank you for this! My father's family were slaves on a North Carolina rice plantation. One of my descendants ran away at 15, joined the British Army and came to Canada at 19. It's why I'm here.

My grandfather fought in WW1. My father faced racism every single day. My other realtives managed to escape Europe before shit went down and quckly shed their Jewish names (leading to me having no clue of my heritage in that regard).

I get grit. I rased 3 boys in a trailer on a coffee shop supervisor's salary. I didn't buy so much as a par of underwear for 12 years. it ain't running from the Nazi's grit, but it's damn sure more grit than any of these people talking about "grit" have ever seen.

My faather died at 64, that's where resilience and grit got him.

Grit does indeed run out. It ran out for me when I hot the wall and spent an entire month in bed with a mental breakdown. People can fuck right off with their spoiled, entitled narratives about "resilience and grit." Feed a family of 4 with a handful of rice, a wiener, a can of tomatoes and some bread, then talk to me about grit. And that's just me, not my ancestors. All well and good to talk big from the comfort of mommy's mansion. Oh girl, you got me started now....
