Thank you so much for this! First, let me say I'm so very sorry for your loss. As you probably already know, this is my worst nightmare and what I've been running around trying to prevent.
Alcoholism runs in my family too, and my son's father's. My grandfather was a raging drunk and a mean one at that.
It's hard, especially when we have knowledge. I worked in mental health for years and later was a lawyer and know a little about addiction, but when it's your own kid....it's just such a helpless feeling.
You're right, he is a grown man and he was to save himself. Since writing this, he's moved to another city to get away from the drinking buddy/toxic girlfriend. he has an interview for a good job tomorrow (which he will absolutely get, he's every charming and presents well...there's never a question of him getting the job, it's the keeping the job that's the problem).
