Music is like a series of bookmarks in my life. Certain songs mark certain events, time periods, even certain people that I’ve experienced, lived through or met over the past 5 decades. Give me a song, I can pretty much tell you where I was, what I was doing and who I was with when it was popular.

Before I get into the meat of it, I must be honest. The idea of writing about the soundtrack to my life is not unique. In fact, I got it from Carrie. A. Kelly after reading her story about the tunes that punctuated her life thus far. I encourage you to check it out:

My earliest memories of music are of whatever happened to be playing around me in the early to mid-’70s. My parents were huge fans of country music, especially Charley Pride, so I have vague recollections of his voice.

Oddly enough, the earliest specific memory I have as far as music goes is of my mother watching Hee Haw. For the younger folks out there, Hee Haw was a cheesy, sort of…
