The Passing of A Canadian Icon
See that little old lady? Harmless, right? Born Susan Powell in 1930, this nurse didn’t exactly look like the type to make a fuss.
But a fuss she made!
This old lady, who just passed on at 93 was a trailblazer and an icon. From 1996–2005, she hosted the Sunday Night Sex Show.
I don’t remember what time it was on, I’ll say midnight. I can’t say for sure, but this elderly little waif talked turkey. She answered calls. She answered questions in a clinical and wholesome kind of way.
Want to know where the G spot is? Sue would tell you.
Want to know how to suck a dick? Sue would tell you. I recall a banana.
Need to know how to apply a condom…Sue got you.
As a kid who grew up with older parents in the 80s and never discussing sex, Sue was a much-needed beacon.
This woman was the savior of a generation. She made sex something to be discussed. She made it less shameful. Gay sex, straight sex, she didn’t care.
She answered all our questions. And she did it in a safe, non-judgmental way. Just the facts, which is what we needed.
Godspeed, Sue…much love and respect. You took us to school at a time when we really needed it.
