Well, first, I never claimed it to be universal, I'm speaking specifically about an election, the voters and the political climate in one country in response to a question that was posed.

And no the abstract vs concrete is not a false dichotomy, at least in practical terms. While you're right that everything is interconnected, that in itself is a very abstract concept. In practical, real-world terms, most people, while perhaps faintly aware of that concept, don't operate as if it's so. They operate on the basis of their own needs first (see Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, basic needs are addressed before higher-order needs, and what you describe is higher-order).

I've had plenty of advantages in life too. While I'm mixed race, I'm white presenting and virtually indistinguishable from an actual white person to most people. I'm thin, beautiful (in my younger days), bright, college-educated (many times over) and able-bodied. So I get what you're saying. But not everyone is as aware as you are or as willing to confront it in real way. We may all be capable of doing it, but so far, you're one in a million.
