Wow! First off, thank you for your well-thought-out comment and for sharing your story with me. I totally get it. I obviously look white and growing up, my father faced a good deal of racism for having the audacity to have a white kid with him. People sometimes attempted to remove me from his custody, in stores, etc, and threatened to call the police. This was back when I was very young, in the 1970s. I've written about it. Heck, I've written quite a few stories about growing up mixed-race (not so shameless plug).
Being mixed race can be confusing when you're young, but it sounds like you and your daughter's mother have done a great job with your daughter.
And yes, you're exactly right about my mom. It was just something I couldn't grasp as a kid.
