Yes, I grew up seeing them in the wild. I grew up in Atlantic Canada on an army base in New Brunswick that was surrounded by all kinds of woods. We often played in the woods and picked pussy willows all the time, before they flowered, when they were fussy. I loved them! Damn, that's got me thinking about writing about stuff I did as a kid that kids don't do anymore, like, you know, going outside....
