You don't need to like it to be supportive. I get what you're saying, but I grew up in the 80s, I graduated from high school in 1989. Yes, being out and proud was brave and revolutionary. It still is. Imagine living in a world where you, or those that came before you had to hide, to deny or suppress a vital part of yourself. That's the thing, that's the idea behind pride, being able to be exactly who you are without shame or fear.
But we're getting off point...
I get, like I said that many corporate efforts "smell like" pandering and a cash grab, but the visibility is still there and it has value.
As far as tanking the economy, I think what the OP was getting at was that perhaps it's time for women to "vote with their purses," for lack of a better term.
