You know by now from my comments that I practised law here in Canada for years, and one doesn't need to have a law degree to know that people can be assholes. That was the first point. Also, I think a lot of these folks saying things like that are, well, to be frank, ineffectual losers in their mommies' basements, without jobs, and with Cheeto dust in their chest hair, relishing an opportunity to feel superior to someone (especially on Reddit, sorry, just my observation of the site).
Further to that, people are actually incredibly naive when it comes to how the justice system works (or doesn't work). They think the "bad guys" get what's coming. They don't see the over-zealous cops, the way, way too eager prosecutors that will bring the most insane charges, in my opinion only to gain a conviction on a lesser included charge (the stories I could tell).
